We’re 23 days away from the 2025 NFL Draft! Our Chicago Bears pick 10th overall and there is some buzz about the Bears possible taking Ashton Jeanty, Running Back from Boise State.
Ashton Jeanty is widely regarded as the top running back in the 2025 draft class. In 2024 Jeanty ran for over 2,600 yards and had 29 rushing touchdowns. He could be a potential top-10 pick, but the Running Back positions isn’t as prominent as it was in the days of Bears greats like Walter Payton, Neal Anderson, and Matt Forte. With the 10th pick, the Bears are in a strategic position to select him. But what about other team needs like Edge Rusher or Offensive Tackle? Also, other teams, such as the Las Vegas Raiders (6th pick) and New Orleans Saints (9th pick), have shown interest in Jeanty, which could impact his availability by the time the Bears are on the clock. Selecting Jeanty comes with considerations:
- Positional Value: Investing a high first-round pick in a running back is often debated due to the position’s perceived value and the availability of talent in later rounds.
- Workload Concerns: Jeanty had a heavy workload during his collegiate career, particularly in 2024 with 374 carries. This could raise durability concerns at the professional level. Wikipedia+2Journal Sentinel+2talkSPORT+2
- Team Needs Alignment: The Bears have multiple areas to address, and selecting a running back early might divert resources from more critical positions.
But hey, adding Jeanty to the roster offers several potential benefits:
- Immediate Impact: Jeanty’s NFL-ready skill set, characterized by powerful running and exceptional contact balance, suggests he could contribute significantly from the outset. CBSSports.com
- Offensive Versatility: His proven ability as both a rusher and receiver would provide the Bears with a dynamic offensive weapon, enhancing their strategic options.
- Elevated Offensive Threat: Pairing Jeanty with quarterback Caleb Williams could create a formidable backfield duo, potentially transforming the Bears’ offensive dynamics.
Just like the Schwartz, there’s an upside and a downside. Me? I think the Bears did a pretty good job overhauling their O-Line in free agency. They also picked up Dayo Odeyingbo and Grady Jarrett. So unless Abdul Carter from Penn State falls to 10, and he won’t, if Jeanty is still available, I don’t think the Bear could go wrong with taking him.
